Movies, TV, Comics
  • Boxleitner has not only watched a wide variety of movies and television since his early childhood years, but he's actively engaged with the media he's consumed, considering its intended messages, themes and the techniques used to produce and present it.
  • Boxleitner has drawn from a broad spectrum of movies and television to consume over the years, seeking out not only acknowledged masters of those media, both old and new, but also more obscure or overlooked works, to discern artistic or entertainment value in them that others might have missed.
  • Although Boxleitner harbors an unabashed affinity for works of art and entertainment from certain eras, especially those from the years of his own upbringing, he welcomes the opportunity to engage with works that have captured the imaginations of younger generations, because he remembers what it feels like to have your favorite films or TV shows dismissed by older folks.

Kirk Boxleitner has been a published film and television reviewer since September of 2017, first for the Port Townsend Leader, then for the Shelton-Mason County Journal and the Rainshadow Journal. His October 17, 2017, review of "Blade Runner 2049" for the Port Townsend Leader won second place, for all circulation groups, in the "Art Reviews" category of the WNPA (Washington Newspaper Publisher Association) Better Newspaper Contest awards in 2018. He's won close to 30 WNPA awards over the course of his career as a reporter covering all aspects of civic and community life for newspapers and online publications throughout Washington state — including the Marysville Globe, the Arlington Times, the North County Outlook, the Port Townsend Leader, the Rainshadow Journal and the Shelton-Mason County Journal — and occasionally parts of Montana (at the Philipsburg Mail and the Silver State Post) and Wyoming (at the Thermopolis Independent Record) since February of 2004. He was also an enlistee and journalist in the U.S. Navy from August of 1996 to October of 2003, who received a Navy Chief of Information (CHINFO) Merit Award for his work as a journalist, and deployed overseas onboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) as part of Operation Enduring Freedom from 2001 to 2002 and Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.

After studying entertainment, mass media, and public policy at one of the premier institutions in the nation for those fields, at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, Boxleitner subjected himself to the "boot camp" for disciplined, stress-tested reporting, in both print and broadcast journalism, at the Defense Information School (DINFOS) of the U.S. Department of Defense.
