Can Five Nights At Freddy’s Escape The Resident Evil Fandom Curse?
Even with its many film adaptations, the “Resident Evil” franchise has struggled to satisfy all of its fans, and the “Five Nights at Freddy’s” movie could have a similar problem.
The movie adaptation of “FNaF” is joining the property’s 13 games and over 30 graphic novels. The film must have broad appeal, making it unlikely to cater to die-hard fans.
Adaptations of popular works often omit significant moments or make big changes to the story, pacing, and characters to better fit the medium of film.
While some rumors claimed the movie would have a three-hour runtime, fans were severely disappointed to learn it would be an hour and 50 minutes.
This shorter-than-expected runtime means that fans might be disappointed if the film doesn’t include particular pieces of the massive lore of “FNaF.”
One reason the first game was successful was the intimate connection between the players and what was shown on screen, but the film needs a narrative approach to the material.
The “FNaF” movie has been in the works since 2015, giving fans plenty of time to theorize what it would be about. Unfortunately, this also means expectations could be unrealistic.
However, tempering expectations could allow the space for future sequels to expand the lore without having to cram it all into a single film.
