How Tom Hanks Single-Handedly Saved One Of Forrest Gump’s Best Scenes
One of the most iconic moments from "Forrest Gump" comes more than halfway through the film, when a heartbroken Forrest starts running and doesn’t stop for three years.
Forrest runs non-stop across the country — and then one day, he just stops and goes back home. It's a pivotal moment and a payoff to earlier scenes showing how fast Forrest runs.
However, the scene almost didn’t exist because of the budget. While speaking with Yahoo Movies, Tom Hanks revealed that he had to step in to help finance the sequence.
Director Robert Zemeckis approached Hanks and proposed that he and the actor split the cost of the big running sequence. The actor agreed, and the sequence was shot.
