Joe Pesci Received Serious Burns From One Of Home Alone 2's Most Famous Stunts
Nothing says Christmas more than an abandoned child, a booby-trapped house, and a pair of criminals who fall victim to swinging paint cans, heated door knobs, and flame throwers. At least, that’s what the popularity of “Home Alone” seems to indicate, but despite the film's slapstick humor, there's nothing funny about Joe Pesci's real-life injury on set.
“Home Alone 2: Lost in New York,” takes the slapstick humor of “Home Alone” to another, more violent, level, and Joe Pesci, who played Harry, sustained serious injuries from a stunt involving a flame-thrower. Pesci recalled, “I did sustain serious burns to the top of my head during the scene where Harry’s hat is set on fire.”
However, despite the serious burn, and “bumps, bruises, and general pains that you would associate with that particular type of physical humor,” Pesci was happy to take on the role. He recalled, “It was a nice change of pace to do that particular type of slapstick comedy. The ‘Home Alone’ movies were a more physical type of comedy, therefore a little more demanding.”
