The Only Simpsons Prank Call Scene Moe’s Actor Tried To Get Out Of
One of the running gags of “The Simpsons” is that Bart (Nancy Cartwright) calls the Moe’s Tavern asking the clueless barkeep (Hank Azaria) for a fake patron name.
Moe would yell to the people in the bar names like "Jacques Strap," "I.P. Freely," "Ivanna Tinkle," "Al Caholic," "Hugh Jass," and "Seymour Butts" and tell them they had a call.
In the book "Springfield Confidential” by Mike Reiss and Mathew Klickstein, it was revealed that Azaria objected to one such phone prank in the episode "Treehouse of Horror II.”
The episode imagined Bart having infinite super powers, and he used them to make his phone pranks to Moe's Tavern become more elaborate.
Instead of getting Moe to yell out comedic names, Bart forces him to say, "I'm a stupid moron with an ugly face and a big butt and my butt smells and I like to kiss my own butt."
Usually Moe realizes he’s been duped and cusses into the phone. Reiss said Azaria didn't want to record Moe's reaction to Bart’s prank phone call, but eventually he did it.
