What Those Little Balls In House Of The Dragon’s Council Scenes Really Mean
The first episode of “House Of The Dragon" features several scenes centered on the Small Council in King's Landing, which is essentially Westeros' equivalent to a Cabinet meeting.
As the various members of the Small Council arrive, they grab a large marble-looking ball in the center of the table and then put it in a bowl at their seat.
Set decorator Claire Nie Richards told The Hollywood Reporter that the balls are used to represent "the council coming in and being part of the meeting," like a punch card.
Co-creator Ryan Condal said they “set formality of the Small Council chamber." The balls add to the decorum of the proceedings, a symbol of a functioning government.
