Why Guillermo Del Toro Was Terrified By Reactions To Pacific Rim
Director Guillermo del Toro is known for his love of anime. However, if you asked him how he felt prior to the release of "Pacific Rim," he likely would have been a nervous wreck.
According to David S. Cohen's book "Pacific Rim: Man, Machines & Monsters," del Toro was "struck by a sudden attack of nerves," shortly before the debut of the first trailer.
"It hit me like a ton of bricks," he recalls in the book. "I grabbed my wife and I said 'I'm absolutely petrified.'" It makes sense as to why he put so much pressure on the film.
Since del Toro had never played in the big league of mainstream summer entertainment before, "Pacific Rim" needed to be successful to win over the general public.
"Pacific Rim" was del Toro's first film in five years and his first original work since 2006's "Pan's Labyrinth." It was also his first original English-language script.
